OBJECTIVES:

The chief objectives of the Conference are:
1. to review the state aquatic ecosystem health in the tropics in general
and Asian tropics in particular,
2. to evaluate the impact of deterioration of aquatic ecosystem health on
biodiversity, fisheries, and humans,
3. to review the methods for assessment and monitoring of aquatic ecosystem
health in the tropics,
4. to review the status of conservation and management of aquatic ecosystems
in the tropics, and
5. to formulate strategies for the restoration of aquatic ecosystem health
in the tropics

The Conference will cover all kinds of aquatic ecosystems such as rivers and
streams, lakes and reservoirs, wetlands, coastal lagoons and backwaters,
shallow coastal marine areas, and shalllow waterbodies.

The First Circular which will include more details about the organisation
of the Conference, will be mailed in January 1999, and shall also be posted
on the website of the AEHMS.

All those interested in participating in the Conference, with or without
a formal contribution, OR in receiving a copy of the detailed announcement and
future circulars are requested to communicate their name, full postal

31 December 1998.
